This selection begins with a solo voice which was a common technique to establish the pitch on which the chant would be sung. Pay particular attention to the cadences of each melodic phrase. At each phrase ending, ornaments were used to close the musical thought. There is usually a particular pitch around which the chant is centered. The pitch and range of the melodic line determined the mode of the chant. The resonance you hear in this recording is typical of the church settings in which chant was sung. The echo gives the music a lofty and serious tone. Notice the intricate melodic passages where the melody has several notes for one syllable of text (melisma).
